We met for a Sock Party at Ralph & Gill’s (thanks for the hospitality) on Friday April 25th.

Here is the Wine List with some, rather truncated ‘cos I was having fun, comments from me…

“Expatré” Reserve Semillon 2007 (The Colonial Estate)             (Welcome Wine)
Oily nose with a nutty note. Oily palate too with a mineral or stoney twist and some warmth. Long citric finish… Balance and well developed – good.

“Heimberger” VV Alsace Riesling 2001 (Cave de Beblenhiem)              (Kim)
Over-ripe peach nose, with a slightly polish (pre-diesel?) hint. Off dry palate with peach again, and a lively acidity holding together the balance between richness and lightness very well.

“Fire Flower” Chenin / Pinot Grigio 2013 (Boutinot – S. Africa)         (Ann)
Tropical fruit notes – tending to pineapple perfumes. Some citric acidity on the palate, sweet fruit tending a little to the confectionery.

“La Faîte” Côtes de St. Mont 2005 (Plaimont)          (Anna)
Peachy notes and hints of mineral – slate? Palate is supple, rich with a sharp lemon backbone, and a warm mineral finish. Very balanced and perfectly aged – very good.

“Vinas del Vero” Somontano Gewurztraminer 2013 (Pago El Enebro)       (Yvonne)
Slightly prickly rose-water nose, a light but distinctive Gewurz with sweetish fruit and balancing acidity.

Château Preuillac 2004 (Medoc Cru Bourgeois)         (Rob)
Mulberry fruit nose. Palate has light fruit at first but herby and surprisingly dry with tannins present at the finish. Still a little young but typical of the appellation.

“Rouge Gorge” 2009 Coteaux du Loir (Dmn. de Bellivère)        (John)
Made from Pineau d’Aunis, this has a cherry fruit and bay leaf nose. The nose has similar flavours plus mocha and warm peppery tannins with a slightly green acidity. Interesting.

Château Laniote 2000 (GCC St Emilion)         (Laurie)
Typical claret nose with cedar and red fruit. Dryish palate with mulberry fruit, structuring tannins and acidity, and dark notes that aren’t quite (yet? / still?) chocolate. This wine seems to have increased in seriousness – is it too old, too young?? Still quite satisfying though.

Sula Vineyards Zinfandel 2012 (India)         (Mike)
Jammy fruit nose, maybe blackberry. Light and soft fruity palate. Quite supple.

Montsant Finca L’Argata 2002 (D’Anguera)         (Paul)
Very fruity supple nose. Sour cherry notes followed by sweeter and lighter fruit on the palate, finished with warm and herby flavours… Very good.

Gogondas “La Gille” 2011 (Perrin)       (Kathryn)
Plummy fruit and herby nose. Smooth but warm palate, quite soft with supple spicy plums… Long and a good example.

Brachetto d’Acqui “Cardinale Lanata” 2010        (Ralph)
Spritzy sweet dried fruit nose – raspberry and sodaish elements on the palate. Refreshing and glug-able… A lovely end to a lovely evening of tasting threaded with lovely food throughout.
Thank you again Ralph and Gill, for hosting
